A Kenyan family man broke down in tears as he painfully narrated how a house he had taken a loan to construct was brought down in Mavoko.
The man who was identified as Fredrick narrated how he pleaded with the police to allow him to salvage a few household items in vain.
“I tried to plead with police to give us time and allow me pick a few things from the house but they declined,” they said they had their orders,” said Fredrick.
He broke down in tears as he recalled that at the time of demolition, his wife was at the hospital where his child was admitted. He said that it was not more than a few hours after President Ruto have the orders for the demolitions to go ahead than excavators and bulldozers rolled at their estate and started bringing the houses down.
Fred narrated how he had obtained a loan to construct his four-bedroom house, only to find himself still struggling to complete the plastering when he moved in.
“I had two plots that cost at least Sh. 600,000. I used close to Sh. 6 million in building, the house” he said.
He said that he had to single-handedly finish the apartment with his meager salary, juggling the loan payments, household expenses, and school fees.
“The most painful incident is that I am not done with paying the loan. Children are in school, and now I have to start renting,” he said during a show that was hosted by Radio Jambo’s Massawe Jappani.

“Since the outbreak of the 2020 pandemic things turned upside down; life became hard and our pay was reduced. In Mavoko, we contribute to building schools, and putting up churches, it’s like we saved in the area,” he said.
