Revealed: How underworld deals changed Kevin Omwenga’s lifestyle

Kevin Omwenga Lifestyle: The lifestyle of the late Kevin Omwenga raised doubts on what his true source of income was. The expensive lifestyle further fueled speculation that indeed, the slain 28-year-old was involved in a series of suspect deals that may have included money laundering and fake gold trade.

Reports said that after quitting his job as an operations manager at a car dealer along Ngong Road, the late businessman was broke to the extent of failing to pay his rent and electricity bills in March 2020.

He had worked as a car seller in Lavington between 2016 and 2019, Omwenga. At the time, he used to earn a commission for every sale. He later quit the job and shortly after moved into the Galana Suites where he rented a Sh. 150,000 furnished apartment. Not only did he change his house but also was reported to have changed his lifestyle and his friends.

Just two months after quitting, Kevin was also said to have been in a position to purchase high end cars with a collective worth of more than Sh.20 million in addition to sustaining a high life. Among these was a brand new high end car, a Porsche Panamera, which costs at least Sh. 14 million.

On social media, there was also a video of Mr Omwenga receiving congratulatory messages on buying the car. “Congratulations bro,” said a man holding a camera pointing to the car before it pans to Omwenga, who responded, “Thank you my brother, word to the hustle men.”

Is Nairobi’s Kilimani area the den of murders, drugs, money laundering?

“I am so happy for you, my friend. The Panamera has arrived,” shouted a female voice in yet another undated video.

Detectives suspected that Omwenga was involved in underworld deals, out of which a gold deal gone sour led to his death. One set of sources said that Omwenga, and his associates Bodo and Chris Obure were at Glo Jet’s offices on the first floor for the better part of Friday.

They then retreated to Mr Omwenga’s house to celebrate what detectives believe was a fake gold deal they had executed. Yet other sources pointed to a previous disagreement on splitting money from an alleged fake gold deal in March 2020, where a down-payment was made by a buyer.

Although the main suspect said that the shooting was an accident, the police ruled out the accident theory. An autopsy showed the flamboyant man was shot at close range with the bullet tearing through his heart and left lung.

The postmortem exercise which was conducted at Montezuna Monalisa Funeral Home on August 24, 2020, showed the bullet used in killing the businessman was fired from a high position. He was shot using a Ceska Pistol serial number B156623. Kevin Omwenga Lifestyle.
