Kieni MP: I lost over Sh. 550mn after protestors raided my supermarket

Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina is claiming that he lost over half a billion shillings when angry protestors stormed his supermarket and carted goods away.

The supermarket belonging to MP was raided on Tuesday, June 25, 2024 by protestors who were angry with him for voting ‘Yes’ to the Finance Bill 2024 that has since been withdrawn by President William Ruto.

“I lost movable stock worth Sh. 450 million and equipment such as bakery shelves, among others, valued at Sh. 100 million,” the Kieni MP told local media house, The Standard.

“The scrap metal dealers are now scavenging for the metallic stands that remained after the inferno.”

Some protestors were caught on camera stealing goods from Chieni Supermarket. These included items such as mattresses, fridges and cookers.

Although Chieni Supermarket was deliberately targeted because its owner – Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina – had voted to pass the controversial Bill, other supermarkets in various parts of the country were vandalized and robbed in acts of mayhem and outright vandalism.

These included Naivas Supermarket in Naivasha that was swept clean and a QuickMart branch in Nairobi that was also targeted.
