Detectives are scrambling to solve the gruesome murder of a patient who was slaughtered inside the Kenyatta National Hospital.
The patient who has been identified as Gilbert Kinyua was found dead in his KNH hospital bed inside Ward 7B at the Kenyatta National Hospital on the morning of Friday February 8, 2025. He was 39 years old. Kinyua was found with his throat slit .
Detectives recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife that is believed to have been the murder weapon. The knife had been thrown onto the ground floor through the window near where Gilbert had been killed.
In a puzzling twist, reports say that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations are yet to obtain video footage from the facility’s CCTV. Apparently, during the night of the murder, the security cameras were not working.
A nurse who was on duty told detectives that at around 3am, she conducted a routine check and all was well in the ward. At this time, Kinyua was still alive and unharmed in his bed. At 6am when she returned for another check, she found Kinyua dead in a pool of blood.

The murder incident was on Friday confirmed by the hospital, stated that it is working with detectives to establish what happened. Reports say that Kinyua had been admitted at the hospital on December 11 for treatment from a celebral disorder. There was a patient with a similar condition in his ward at the time of murder. However. this patient was too weak to know what had transpired, reports said.
“The hospital is working closely with law enforcement authorities and has launched an internal investigation to determine the facts surrounding the incident, “KNH acting chief executive officer Dr. W.K Sigilai said in a statement.
This was the second murder incident to have allegedly occurred at the facility. Nine years ago, in November 2015, a patient was found murdered in their bed at the hospital.
