Taking to social media, Senator Mungatana mourned Jilo as a loving family man.

“He was a hard-working man who loved his family and one who had a spirit of always trying to go forward. Indeed, death found him while trying to take another step forward in his public service career,” Mungatana said in his statement.

Interviews for the NPSC Chairperson position commenced on Monday, March 24, and concluded on Tuesday, March 25.

The NPSC chairperson leads the Commission which is responsible for overseeing human resource functions within the National Police Service.

This includes recruitment, promotions, transfers, engaging with police associations, monitoring and evaluation, policy development and oversight, and disciplinary control.

Nine candidates were shortlisted for the role, while 29 were selected for membership positions.

Among those shortlisted for the NPSC chairperson position were former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioner Margaret Mwachanya, former Busia Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa, ex-Principal Secretary (PS) Micah Powon, former IPOA member Doreen Nkatha, and ex-MP Humphrey Kimani.

Others are Susan Oyatsi, John Mutegi, Komora, and John Otieno

After the interviews, the panel is expected to submit a shortlist of top candidates to President William Ruto for consideration.

The Head of State will then nominate one candidate for the position and submit the name to the National Assembly for approval.
