KU Vice Chancellor sacked after land drama with Uhuru

Co-Op post

KU Vice Chancellor Professor Paul Wainaina has been kicked out of the University days after President Uhuru Kenyatta publicly declared that he would be dealt with swiftly and effectively.

This follows a major disagreement the Vice Chancellor had with the national government over a parcel of land that was to be designated for the World Health Organization. The WHO was looking to set up a Sh. 600 million emergency hub to cater for its regional operations at the university.

The WHO Emergency Hub will be completed in three years and the Kenyan government has allocated 12.4 hectares with a committed fund of Sh. 600 million for the investment.

This trickled into a row between the university and the Kenyatta University Teaching and Referral Hospital over the ownership of a 1,000-acre piece of land.

Following the sack, the secretary to the cabinet Joseph Kinyua has ordered Prof. Wainaina to surrender the university title deed.

President Uhuru was captured on video lamenting that the professor was attempting to slam brakes on the WHO project.

“We have individuals who are very ignorant and behave as if they have never entered a classroom… they don’t understand that Kenya has never operated in isolation. We shall deal with those individuals swiftly and very effectively,” said President Uhuru.
