Has KUCCPS raised cut-off points for education courses?

The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has dismissed claims that it has raised cut-off points for education courses.

This follows a social media post by a fake Facebook Group dubbed KUCCPS UPDATES 2025 SEPTEMBER INTAKE that claimed the placement service had revised cut-off points for education courses.

The post added that the revised cut-off points would bar students with a C+ in their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) from direct-university entry.

In a social media post on Sunday, April 13, 2025, KUCCPS flagged the Facebook group as fake and warned applicants against falling for such misleading sites.

“KUCCPS have revised their cut-off points for education, and the current ones C+ students interested in education might miss out. This is due to the raise of cut-off points, which many aren’t considering,” the fake post read.

“The current cut-off points are 27 and above in public universities. This means you can only do a degree in education with a C+ if you go to a private institution. Make informed decisions.”

The placement service also flagged another Facebook group claiming to assist with HELB applications.

“Beware of fakes and impersonators!” KUCCPS warned.

Education cabinet secretary Julius Ogamba had earlier clarified that the government has not reintroduced cut-off points for admission to university.

Ogamba maintained that the minimum requirement for university entry, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus).

“The government has not reintroduced cut-off points for admission to university. The minimum admission requirement to university, which will apply to the 2024 KCSE cohort, is a mean grade of C+ (plus). Therefore, all the 246,391 students who attained a mean grade of C+ (plus) and above qualify for university admission,” he said.
