KUCCPS-KMTC admissions dismissed; KMTC asked to make fresh intake alone

KUCCPS-KMTC admissions dismissed; KMTC asked to make fresh intake alone

The National Assembly’s Health Committee has termed college admissions that were conducted by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Placement Service (KUCCPS) for the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) as null and void.

This comes as KUCCPS announced that it had received about 42,000 applications, of which 30,000 applicants were set to miss the September intake due to low number of available slots.

In its declaration, the Health Committee called for fresh KMTC admissions to be conducted by the college without the involvement of KUCCPS.

It also recommended that the amount of money paid by the applicants to KUCCPS be tendered to KMTC.

According to the committee, the KUCCPS process was done illegally and was marred by irregularities. The committee noted that in July, a court order was issued barring KUCCPS from taking over the KMTC placement. However, no appeal was made against the court verdict.

“It is obvious that the process is null and void, there is a court order that clearly says the placement of students should be done by the KMTC board, by KUCCPS conducting the placement makes it illegal,” Robert Pukose, the Health Committee chair and the Member of Parliament for Endebess constituency said.

The committee further declared that students who had paid Sh. 2,000 application fee would not be charged in the fresh process that KMTC has been mandated to conduct.

“It should be clear that the student who had paid the application fee should not repay when reapplying, but on how the selection will be done, we will leave it to the board,” Pukose said.
