A landlord in Kisumu County has put their tenant’s underwear up for auction.
In a notice for the planned auction of eight undergarments and a pair of ladies’ hip enlargement underwear published in one of the local dailies on January 30, 2023, Nyaluoyo Auctioneers invited interested bidders to buy four pairs of men’s underwear and four pairs of female underwear.
According to the auctioneers, the sale will also include 2 kids’ bags, 3 eye adhesives, 1 white cream and 2 hip enlargement attires.
The public auction will take place at the firm’s yard in Kisumu at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. This will aim at recovering the rent arrears owed to various landlords by their tenants.
“Pursuant to our principal’s instruction, we shall set the following goods by public auction on Tuesday, 7th day of February 2023 at our office yard, Kisumu at 11:00 am,” part of the notice read.
The notice has since gone viral, with netizens poking fun at the auctioneering company and the landlord after it emerged the client would be selling undergarments to recover part of the unpaid rent amounting to Sh. 120, 000.
The tenant is said to have rented one of the shops at Kisumu’s Mega City Mall, where he ran a boutique. He had accumulated the Sh. 120,000 in rent arrears.
