CNN International Correspondent Larry Madowo has landed a new role at the global news powerhouse. Madowo who is a Kenyan has been named as the new host of the long-running series African Voices Changemakers.

This programme has been airing on CNN International for over a decade. It focuses on profiling individuals from across the continent who are making a difference in their communities and making cultural contributions.

This promotion comes barely two years after Madowo left BBC to join CNN where he was named as the CNN Nairobi Correspondent.

Madowo has been high flying at CNN. A few months after making his move, the journalist received a major promotion at CNN.

Madowo, who was the former BBC North America Correspondent, was promoted to the position of CNN International Correspondent.

Madowo made the revelation after he updated his profile online to reflect his new position. He covered news beyond the Nairobi area that included the whole of East Africa.

Madowo started his broadcasting career at Kenya Television Network at the age of 20. He was a news anchor at NTV Kenya before joining BBC.

He then moved on and served as the BBC Africa Business Editor before becoming the BBC’s North America Correspondent in Washington.

He also was a fill-in anchor for the network’s flagship BBC World News America show that airs globally and on PBS stations across the United States.

In May 2021, he was poached by CNN in an announcement that was made by Deborah Rayner, Senior Vice President of International Newsgathering and Managing Editor, Europe, Middle East and Africa, for CNN International.

“I have long admired CNN International’s award-winning coverage, and I’m honoured to be joining such a talented team. I look forward to sharing the full spectrum of life in one of the most dynamic parts of the world with CNN’s global audiences,” Madowo had said when he joined the CNN in May 2021.
