Likoni Foot Bridge: The two billion shilling 824-metre Likoni floating bridge will be dismantled in five years. The bridge will be dismantled once the Mombasa Gate Bridge is completed in the year 2025. This is according to Transport CS James Macharia.
According to Macharia the Sh. 1.9 billion Likoni foot bridge will be dismantled and set up in another area. He said that its life span is at least 50 years.

Macharia said that the government will set up the Mombasa Gate Bridge at a cost of Sh. 210 billion. This bridge, Macharia said, will be the permanent solution to the Likoni ferry crossing channel challenges. The Mombasa Gate Bridge will be 70 metres high to allow for ships to pass underneath. “The bridge is being designed as we speak. The design will be complete by June 2021,” the CS said. Construction is scheduled to start in December 2021 and will take four years to complete.
At the Likoni crossing channel, an average of 300,000 people and 6,000 vehicles cross the channel daily. Over the recent few weeks, though, the government has been directing pedestrian traffic to the floating bridge.
