NTV’s General Manager Linus Kaikai has left the Nation media group. Kaikai was reportedly fired by the media house on Friday.
His firing, according to a local online media site, followed his decision to defy his seniors and proceeding to live stream proceedings at the NASA mock swearing-in of its leader Raila Odinga on January 30.
His decision saw NTV along with other leading TV stations such as KTN, Citizen and Inooro Tv shut down.
NTV and KTN were later restored. Unlike Citizen TV, their management had opted to negotiate with the government. Citizen TV and Inooro TV were only restored after withdrawing a case seeking compensation.
Despite his high-flying career, Kaikai has been faced with accusations of being an ODM sympathizer.
He is reportedly set to be hired by Royal Media Group, where he will take up the position of Chief Operations Officer following Farida Karoney’s appointment as Lands Cabinet Secretary by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
A host of journalists appeared to come to the defense of the media personality with NTV’s Mark Masai tweeting: “To be an editor, you must have spine…you must have a backbone in your body” – @LinusKaikai . You sir, have shown that. Thank you for the stand you have for Journalism. This is not the last we are seeing of you. Ni kwaheri ya kuonana….Ole sere.”
It is also being reported that popular presenter Larry Madowo could also be on his way out after falling out with the media group’s top management.
