Lipa na M-PESA is a service that allows you to pay for goods and services easily through your phone.

Lipa na M-Pesa charges: Buying goods

To Lipa Na M-PESA, go to the M-PESA Menu, select Lipa Na M-PESA and select Buy Goods and services, then enter the Till Number that the merchants will display, and follow subsequent prompts to complete the transactions.

Both you and the merchant will then get confirmation messages from M-PESA.

Lipa na M-Pesa charges: shopping online

When shopping online select Lipa Na M-PESA as the payment method at checkout.

Upon selecting Lipa Na M-PESA, you will be directed to the Lipa Na M-PESA Iframe.

All you need is your Bonga PIN which is used to validate payments using Lipa Na M-PESA online, secure Bonga Points transfer and purchase of Data Bundles via M-PESA.

You can get your PIN in 2 ways:

For PrePay customers, dial *126*5#.

Vetting is based on ID number and Last top up.

For PostPay customer, call line 200 for assistance.

If you need to change your Bonga PIN you can:

Dial *126*5# and use the options provided.

Lipa na M-Pesa charges: getting the charges

This is the procedure to get the Lipa Na Mpesa charges applies to all M-pesa Kenya transactions that use Lipa Na M-PESA Till Number with the Buy Goods option:

You need the business Paybill number/ Merchant Till number to find the corresponding Lipa na Mpesa charges.

You can get the Lipa Na Mpesa Till Numbers here , or from the the websites that accept payment using M-pesa mobile money.

Enter 2 for Tariff Query

Answer with 5 for Lipa na M-PESA

Enter Paybill Number or Merchant Till Number

Enter the amount charged by the business

You will receive an SMS notification of how much it would cost to make the payment for that amount to that Paybill number .

There are three tariffs you can use. These are:

1). Business Mgao Tariff

This tariff cuts the charges both ways. For small charges especially between Sh. 101- 999, the customer pays for the entire cost of the transaction while as the cost rises the business pays more than the customer.

2). Customer Bouquet Tariff

With this tariff, the customer doesn’t have to pay anything to settle the Lipa na Mpesa paybill charges. Here the cost of the transaction rests squarely on the shoulders of the business owner.

3). Business Bouquet Tariff

With this tariff, the cost falls on the customer.
