Lucy Kagia: The 'Outstanding Young Banker of the Year' steering Absa marketing

Lucy Kagia, the marketing manager, of Timiza and Digital Channels at Absa Bank Kenya PLC was recognized as the Outstanding Young Banker of the Year in the recently concluded Think Business Banking Awards 2024.

The event, which took place at the JW Marriott hotel in Nairobi, celebrated Kagia’s exceptional contributions to Kenya’s banking sector.

Lucy has built an illustrious career in banking. Her career in the banking sector kick-started in 2018 when she joined Absa Bank Kenya as a Content Marketer.

She showcased her expertise in the field, climbing the ranks to her current role as Marketing Manager for Virtual Banking at Absa Bank Kenya.

Under her stewardship, Lucy has spearheaded several initiatives that have garnered both industry recognition and customer appreciation. One such campaign is the “Stay Active Campaign,” launched in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Through this initiative, she facilitated connections between the bank’s customers, colleagues, and the general public, promoting mental and physical well-being through engaging activities and expert-led sessions.

Additionally, she has been honoured for her exemplary contribution to Absa’s Valentine’s Campaign, “Absa Money Love Languages,” which uses humour and creativity to promote financial literacy and wellness among diverse audiences.

Running successfully for three years, this campaign has not only achieved commercial success but has also positively impacted the financial well-being of the bank’s customers.

Another notable contribution that has made Lucy a big name in Kenya’s banking sector is the launch of Absa’s WhatsApp banking service.

This groundbreaking initiative has revolutionized customer engagement, setting a new benchmark in the banking industry.

Currently, Lucy is leading Absa’s efforts with Timiza, a platform that provides inclusive financial services to both banked and unbanked individuals in Kenya.

Under her leadership, the platform has empowered millions of customers and facilitated financial inclusion on a significant scale, contributing to the bank’s sustainable growth and social impact.

Lucy’s career extends beyond banking. She is deeply passionate about youth empowerment and mentorship and has moderated numerous mentorship sessions, providing guidance and inspiration to young professionals and aspiring leaders.

Her expertise and thought leadership have earned her spots at prestigious panels and conferences, where she shares insights and best practices with industry peers.

She holds a Bachelor of Accounting and Finance from Co-operative University of Kenya. Other academic achievements include a CPA certificate (KCA University), Data journalism (Rhodes University), and a certificate in project management from Harmony Solutions Limited.
