Maina Kageni’s salary on classic 105 revealed

Maina Kageni’s salary on classic 105 revealed

Lang’ata Member of Parliament Felix Odiwuor, popularly known as Jalang’o, has shed light on how much top presenters at Radio Africa earn per month.

Speaking on the Iko nini podcast, the legislator revealed that classic 105’s Maina Kageni and Daniel Ndambuki and Radio Jambo’s Gidi Gidi and Ghost Mulee are among the top paid.

For Maina, for instance, Jalang’o revealed he earns a whooping Sh2 million per month, adding that he generates around Sh10 million for the station daily.

Co-Op post

“When Maina goes on air, there is a commercial on every break. Everything is sponsored. He makes the station around Sh10 million in a day. Why not give him Sh3 million because if he leaves, the money won’t be as good,” he said.

He noted that the top presenters earn that much because of their hard work and consistency.

“Have you seen the house Gidi has built upcountry? Do you know that he lives in Karen? It is expensive,” he said.

In a previous candid conversation with Kamene Goro, Maina Kageni confirmed that he earns over Sh2 million from his job at Classic 105 FM.

Being among the top paid presenters in Kenya, Maina attributed his success to his unwavering love for the job.

The broadcaster, who has over 20 years of experience in the media industry, stumbled into the profession by chance after being asked to pay Sh40,000 for a voice-over recording while booking an advert on Capital FM.

With no money to pay, he offered to do the recording himself.  The bosses at Capital FM loved his voice, and that is how his radio career began.

“Basically, if I had Sh40,000 that day, I would never have been on the radio,” he said.

After a few months of working at Capital, he was poached by Nation and later by Radio Africa, where his salary tripled.

Besides his radio job, Maina’s other income-generating activities include influencing for brands, working with major Kenyan politicians on their PR and marketing, and running his own ventures, including his travel outfit Tembea Tujenge Kenya.
