Marked ballot papers nabbed in Kilgoris

Marked ballot papers were on Monday evening nabbed in Kilgoris, Narok County.

According to Narok County Police Commander Kizito Mutoro, two police officers and a driver were arrested at around 6.30pm with the marked papers.

“The police received a distress call from members of the public who said they had intercepted marked ballot papers at a petrol station. Police rushed to the scene where they found a Toyota Sienta carrying election materials under the escort of two police officers,” said Mutoro.

Among the materials found include one voter register for Kilgoris Prison, two election results booklets, 12 packets of presidential ballot papers and four form 35c.

Others are five form 36c, six form 34b, seven form 39b, eight form 35b, nine form 36b, 10 38b, 11 copy of work ticket for hired vehicles (2022).

“One presidential ballot box was destroyed by members of the public. Transmara west constituency returning officer confirmed that the intercepted materials were the property of the IEBC,” said Mutoro.

Elsewhere in Wajir County, shots were fired at the Eldas Tallying Centre in Wajir County.

The CDF office at Eldas where ballot papers were being held turned into a battle ground, with gun shots renting the air.

In a video, police could be seen hiding as gun shots rent the air as area residents ran for dear life.
