Mary Wambui: Lady becomes best real estate salesperson, gifted land by AMCCO Properties

Stories of people rising from grinding poverty to having social success is a tried and true theme in the world for centuries.

Despite seemingly impossible odds, some of these people have gone on to establish great businesses while others have achieved great success in their endeavours.

Mary Wambui, a salesperson with AMCCO Properties Ltd, is a great example of a woman who has risen above her humble beginnings to accomplish in life.

She’s a bold woman who has taken numerous risks, beaten the odds, and transformed herself into a respected professional in the real estate industry.

Speaking to Bizna Kenya, Mary shared that after completing her Diploma in Procurement at the Kabete National Polytechnic, she was employed at Powerstar Supermarket, working as an attendant from March 2020 to March 2022.

Here, she gained valuable experience and managed to save part of her monthly salary. Before long, her entrepreneurial spirit willed her into starting her own fast-food business at Kabuku, just opposite St. Paul’s University.

Her target customers were the students at the institution. At first, the business showed promise but as time went by, it struggled. The rising costs of living forced her to shut the business in July 2022.

Ideally, Mary would then begin a fresh job search in the city. As she sought opportunities, one from AMCCO Properties caught her eye and she filled in for the job vacancy.

“I applied for the job vacancy. Luckily, I was called for an interview and got an opportunity after the shortlisting,” Mary shared with Bizna Kenya.

Her persistence paid off when she landed a job as a salesperson on November 15th, 2022. Interestingly, Mary had no prior experience in the real estate industry before joining AMCCO.

This new role came with its own set of challenges, but it also offered her immense growth opportunities.

“I consider working in AMCCO as a great opportunity where I have a platform to achieve my goals. A place to gain unlimited knowledge and skills through interactive activities and exposure,” she said.

Mary Wambui quickly adapted to her role, bravely tackling every challenge with dedication and skill.

In less than two years at AMCCO, she has not only settled in but also shattered, not one, but two invincible records; the ‘Highest Collections Made in a Day’ and the ‘Most Bookings in a Day’.

Mary shared that her record for the highest collections in a single day amounted to Sh. 4.6 million. She also holds the record for the most bookings in a day, with an impressive total of five bookings.

In an industry where success is often quantified, Mary’s approach to sales is indeed a valuable lesson. She shared that it’s a job requiring patience, empathy, and a consistently positive attitude.

“You get to harden on the job since the path is not smooth. You will interact with different clients and you should handle them your best despite their differences,” Mary Wambui shared her wisdom.

The cherry on the cake was when she was gifted a piece of land located in Thigio, Kikuyu that came with a ready title deed issued by her employer.

These accolades from AMCCO Properties show the company’s recognition of her exceptional talent in excelling under pressure and consistently delivering outstanding results.

“I thank AMCCO for the recognition. I feel happy and motivated each day I look at the awards,” she said.

“Thanks to the AMCCO Team for the support and to all my clients who made this happen.”

Mary Wambui revealed that she relies on her mantra, ‘Some will, some won’t, so what? Move to the next,’ to stay focused and motivated, even in tough situations. Her success story serves as an inspiration to younger professionals and aspiring salespeople.

“You can do it. Don’t wait for the best time. Do it today. You have the capability, don’t limit yourself,” she advised.

“Increase your knowledge by reading books and watching sales videos,” Mary concluded.
