Meru Governor appoints husband to two county roles

Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has appointed her husband to two county roles. According to the appointment that was made on September 30, 2022, the Meru first gentleman Murega Baichu will serve as the Youth Service Patron and the Meru Hustlers Ambassador.

This appointment was made as Governor Kawira announced members of her county cabinet. It was not immediately clear whether the new roles will be defined as jobs.

However, Governor Kawira said that Murega will work for free.

“If you call Murega Baichu our first gentleman, you can also call him ambassador in the office of the governor. All hustlers have their ambassador. If you see him at the governor’s office know that he represents hustlers and doesn’t get paid a coin,” she said.

Murega Baichu, who is a musician and supposedly a preacher, has been causing jitters in the county over the level of his involvement in the running of the county affairs.

Baichu has been spotted in multiple high level county meetings even though it is not clear what his roles are.

No more degree requirement for Governor aspirants, court rules

Kawira, who contested as an independent candidate in the August General Elections defeated former cabinet minister Kiraitu Murungi and agriculture cabinet secretary designate Mithika Linturi.
