Two passengers, a man and woman, travelling to Mombasa for the festive seasons found themselves in the unexpected territories of Kiambu County, where their ‘good samaritans’ dumped them after carrying out a daring heist.
The man and woman came across their perpetrators at the Mlolongo area when a private vehicle pulled up and offered to give them a lift. The vehicle had two extra people on board.
With the festivities having price hikes and PSV shortages, the pair failed to give the proposal a second thought.
After boarding the vehicle, the occupants exposed their true colors by brandishing daggers and blindfolding them with ropes around the Simba Cement area of Athi River. The robbers frisked the two passengers for valuables.
From the man, they withdrew Sh. 340,000 from his bank account and an extra Sh. 20,000 from his Mpesa. Furthermore, they took away his Samsung Galaxy phone and power bank valued at Sh. 75,000.
From the woman, who allegedly lives in Mombasa County, they extracted Sh. 49,000 from her Mpesa and took away a number of valuables as well. The vehicle took a turn and sped towards Limuru in Ngarariga Area where the pair were dumped without their properties.
Christmas shopping with Co-op Bank now made easy
Fortunately, none of them were harmed. Members of the public assisted them toward the closest police station where they reported the incident. The case was referred to the DCI stationed in Athi River for follow up.
The detectives have now called upon Kenyans to exercise caution during the festive season by being wary of pretenders seeking to exploit opportunities and rob people.
“As police heighten patrols and crackdowns on such criminal elements who are taking advantage of the season to reign terror on Kenyan citizens, we call upon members of the public to be security cautious and to report any suspicious persons or activities around their neighbourhoods, so that we can all enjoy the true meaning of a happy festivity,” the DCI advised.
