NCBA Group CEO John Gachora named Africa’s CEO of the Week

NCBA Group chief executive officer John Gachora has added another feather to his corporate cap after being named as the InstinctBusiness Magazine CEO of the Week in Africa.

Mr. Gachora was named as the CEO of the Week in Africa in celebration of his outstanding leadership and contributions to the financial sector.

“Under his leadership, NCBA Group continues to expand its footprint in the banking sector, leveraging digital transformation and customer-centric solutions to enhance financial inclusion and business growth,” stated InstinctBusiness, which has been shining spotlight on outstanding business leaders across Africa who are making an impact in their organizations and communities.

For Mr. Gachora, this recognition has not come in vain. A spot check by Bizna Kenya lays bare the transformation going on at the NCBA Group. For instance, in the latest financial results from the bank show that as at the end of quarter three in September 2024, NCBA Group had a profit after tax of Sh15.1 billion and assets of Sh679 billion.

In addition, the bank had disbursed digital loans amounting to Sh751 billion which was equivalent to a growth of 8 percent while customer deposits grew  by 6.4 percent to Sh548.1 billion by the end of quarter three.

The banking group is also currently sitting above Sh100 billion shareholder funds, a fete it accomplished in the six month period ended June 2024.

“We said one of the aspirations for the merger was to have a large capital base that would give us the capacity to support the large companies that operate in this region,” says Mr. Gachora. “We now have a large capital base and it continues to grow. We can now do deals that are of significant size. The maximum lending we can do is 25 per cent of our capital.”

Mr. Gachora holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s degree in Engineering in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA. He also earned an MBA from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

He holds several years of experience in executive management positions at various global companies in corporate and investment banking, structuring and financial engineering, commercial banking and financial services.
