Njoki Daniel: How I started fruit business with Sh600 capital

Co-Op post

Arguably, most of the entrepreneurs with businesses worth millions and billions of shillings started small and kept introducing new ideas to scale their businesses.

This is the case with Njoki Daniel, the founder of Njoki’s Fruits World, a fruit vending enterprise in Kitengela.

The young businesswoman revealed that she started the business, which is now worth thousands of shillings, with Sh600 capital.

She would hawk fruits in different offices thanks to her saving culture and loyal customers who helped her actualize her long-time dream of owning a shop.

“From hawking to opening a shop was a blessing for me, all those times I was chased away from selling really taught me resilience. I saved enough and got this space where I now sell to my existing clientele and I get customers who would be walking and out of curiosity they buy from me,’’ she said.

Njoki explains that social media has played a great role in the success of her business noting that most of her clients are drawn from social media platforms.

She says some of the challenges most entrepreneurs in the fruit business encounter include bad weather, which causes the scarcity of some fruits.

According to her, it becomes very difficult to get fruits during cold and rainy seasons, and suppliers also hike prices due to high demand. To deal with this, she saves three months’ worth of rent so that she doesn’t find herself in trouble.

Njoki notes that most of the youth are still struggling with joblessness due to the huge amounts of cash required for business permits and licenses.

She, however, advised the youth to be willing to take risks with whatever resources they have.

According to her, with determination, resilience, and social media, they can be able to come up with something.
