With modern technology, you would be forgiven to assume that Kenyan telecommunication firms have the online sim card self-registration option.
The reality on the ground over the past few days has shown that this is not the case.
Thousands of Kenyans have been losing precious work time queuing in the sun to register their sim cards for the umpteenth time following a government directive.
In fact, you would be forgiven to think that the upcoming general elections have arrived early and people are queuing to vote.
But amidst the shocking lag in technological advancement that has is on public display, one provider has out shined rivals by offering an easy online sim card self-registration option. This provider is Telkom Kenya.
In less than two minutes Kenyans who own a Telkom line are able to update their registration details online without wasting time queuing in the sun as has been witnessed from other providers.
Chiloba: Kenyans who don’t register sim cards to pay Sh. 300,000 fine
The process starts by dialing *100# and then selecting the Self Sim Registration Update option. One you select this option, Telkom sends you a link via text message.
This link will take you to a page where you will type in your Telkom line number, national ID number, and upload the front and back image of your national ID. Once you’re done, you will only be required to click submit.
To verify if your national ID has been used to register other numbers, you can dial *106# and select the first option on ‘Numbers Registered Under my ID’.
