Kisumu County Assembly has accused its ousted speaker Onyango Oloo of stealing household goods worth Sh. 3 million.

Mr. Oloo is alleged to have carted the furniture from an official rented house for the County Assembly Speaker two weeks ago after he was impeached and his impeachment upheld by the High Court. The goods include coffee tables valued at Sh. 360,000, a king size bed, leather sofa sets valued at Sh. 756,000 and an executive bellisimo display cabinet with hidden made with treated mahogany timber that cost the devolved unit Sh. 580,000, a winter TV stand priced at Sh. 150,000 and tripod nine seater dining table with revolving top worth Sh. 860,000.

A a security guard at the house which is located at Al Arian Court along Jomo Kenyatta Highway next to the Kisumu State Lodge, has revealed that the ex speaker Onyango Oloo carted the goods away at 1am using a lorry.

Following these events, the Kisumu Assembly has written to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate the matter. “We already reported to the police for investigations and a file has been opened since the property belongs to the assembly having passed the normal procurement procedures of goods budgeted for,” said Kisumu Assembly Clerk Owen Ojuok.

The the matter was reported and filed at Central Police Station under OB59/12/2019.

But Oloo has defended himself saying that the furniture that had been at his official residence had been bought for him as a speaker, and argued that even his predecessors did not return theirs.“I removed the items from the house because they had already withdrawn security for the house and it was a rented premise. If they want me to return them, I will do so or they can calculate the value of depreciation so that I compensate,” said Oloo.
