Upfield Kenya engaged students of Kilimani Primary School in Nairobi for a plastic waste management session to mark World Environment Day as it continues with public education efforts on waste management.

Based on this year’s theme Beat Plastic Pollution, the engagement was aimed at equipping students with practical skills to prioritize environmental conservation as a shared responsibility within their school and at home.

Through the institution’s Environment Club, the pupils were exposed to practical plastic management techniques and innovative ways to limit the increasing and avoidable plastic pollution, especially within the urban population.

Environment Club members at the school are trained in practical conservation and waste management methods. They have also previously planted and nurtured tree seedlings at the institution.

With pollution around the city rising uncontrollably, equipping the upcoming generation with the requisite knowledge to manage pollution will be key in addressing and combating future challenges. The younger generation has greater potential to act as environmental ambassadors for a sustainable future.

“Creating an enabling environment for our kids to explore ways of plastic recycling practically is key to conservation efforts. The kids are on their way to being influential environmental ambassadors, and our role is to nurture that from a young age. We teach and train all Environment Club members on recycling plastics, reusing and tree planting. Nurturing their passion and enthusiasm for conservation is great for the future,” Said Kilimani Primary School Environment Club Patron Naomi Thomas.
