President Raila Odinga? Raila opens huge gap on Ruto

Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has opened a huge gap on his main competitor William Ruto.

By Thursday 5am in the morning, tallying from the Nation Media Group had Raila was leading Ruto with 51.27 per cent. Dr. Ruto had 48.05 percent. This translated to over 5.093 million votes for Raila and 4.773 million votes for Ruto.

This made a difference of more than 320,000 votes. However, tallying has varied from one media house to the other due to the speed and manpower of staff downloading and tabulating results from the IEBC website.

For instance, on Citizen Tv which has had Raila ahead for long periods, Dr. Ruto had already crossed the 5 million mark by 5am while Raila was slightly behind. At 6am on KTN, both Raila and Ruto were tied at 5.65 million votes.

Raila and Ruto have been in a fierce political battle to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta who is retiring after then of his two term rule.

The winner of the presidential contest will become the fifth president of the republic of Kenya.

A victory for Raila will mark a sweet coronation for a man who has lost in four previous general elections, most recently in 2013 and 2017.

For Dr. Ruto, this will be the first time that he lost in a contested election in which he is a candidate. This is also the first time that he has made a bid to become the president of Kenya.

Official results for the presidential election will nonetheless be announced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
