Kanini Kega concedes defeat after losing to UDA in Kieni

Kieni Member of Parliament Kanini Kega has conceded defeat. This is after he lost the Kieni parliamentary seat to UDA.

Kanini was contesting under President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party.

“Opening a new chapter. When one door closes, another one opens,” he posted. Kanini went on to proclaim that he had no regrets for backing Raila Odinga and losing his seat in the process.

“I can do it once more for Baba the 5th,” he said.

Kanini added that it was just a matter of time before residents of Mount Kenya region would start missing the retiring president Uhuru Kenyatta and recall that he meant well for the region.

Kanini has been a staunch support of President Uhuru and his handshake partner Raila Odinga, and is expecting to be accommodated by Raila for his sacrifice that has now cost his parliamentary seat.

In 2017, Kanini was the only legislator in the six Nyeri County constituencies to be re-elected in the 2017 General Election after garnering 66,203 votes.

He faced off with former county council chairman Wachira Maina of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria’s party Chama cha Kazi and businessman Wainaina Njoroge of Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA who won the seat.

Kanini had previously said that he was expecting to be reelected with a margin of up to 70 per cent.

“Hopeful of overwhelming re-election with over 70% because we have done great job for our people.

“Besides pumping alot of resources in our schools towards building of classrooms and supporting needy kids,we have also lobbied for the building and equipping of the Naro Moru Level Four Hospital at a cost of Sh. 300 million as well as the setting up of the Kenya Medical Training College in Kiawara.

“To adress shortage of water, several boreholes under my watch have been built and these are just among the many projects accomplished,” he had said.
