Quickmart Supermarket to list over 2 billion shares on NSE

Quickmart Supermarket has announced that it is planning to list on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The retailer who currently runs 72 stores in the country is expected to list on the NSE on September 30, 2026.

This listing is however subject to receiving approvals from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) and the Nairobi Securities Exchange. In the sale, sole shareholder Sokoni Retail Kenya Limited (SRKL) will offload 2 billion existing shares amounting to 50 percent.

This sale might rise to 2.3 billion shares equivalent to 57.5 percent if the over-allotment option is fully effected. All the proceeds from the sale shall go to the seller with the retailer receiving no fresh capital from the listing sale.

“The shares to be sold by SRKL under the offer will be sold in a manner that results in a pro rata partial exit by the shareholders of SRKL. Following completion of the offer, if the over-allotment option is not exercised, SRKL is expected to retain approximately 50 percent of the company’s issued share capital. If the over-allotment option is exercised in full, SRKL’s remaining shareholding would reduce to approximately 42.5 percent,” the statement reads.

The intention to sell shares has revealed the inside look of the retailer’s books. The books show that in the full year 2025 revenue rose by 8 percent to Sh50.4 billion. This was below the 18.4 percent annual growth since the full year 2021. In this year under review, net profit jumped 32.9 percent to Sh1.51 billion. Gross margin in came in flat at 22 percent while operating margin rose to 6.8 percent from 6.4 percent. Net margin upwards to 3 percent from 2.4 percent.

This implied that the net profit growth came from cost control and lower finance charges strategies that were implemented by the company. The books further indicate that in the first half of the current 2026 financial year, Quickmart Supermarket saw revenues of Sh27.3 billion and a net profit of Sh872.8 million.  Gross, operating and net margins came in at 22.5 percent, 7.1 percent, and 3.2 percent.

Since the full year 2022, Quickmart has paid out a total of Sh3.7 billion in dividends. Between 2022 and 2025, payouts increased from Sh106 million to Sh1.65 billion. Once the retailer lists on the NSE, it has announced plans to be paying out dividends in a ratio of at least 80 percent. This will be paid out semi annually.
