Why Raila has called off Cherera protests at last minute

Azimio la Umoja and ODM leader Raila Odinga has called off protests against the removal of Cherera Four that were slated to kick off tomorrow.

The ODM leader has now announced a new date for the protests. According to a statement from the ODM leader, the Cherera Four protests will now start on December 7.

The statement said that the protests had been called off due to the ongoing national examinations.

“We have decided to reschedule the start of our public engagements from tomorrow, November 30 to December 7, 2022, due to the ongoing national examinations. We have listened to the appeals of parents and our school-going children and we decided to obey their wishes,” the statement that was released by National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi.

The ODM leader is opposing the ongoing process that is aimed at removing Julian Cherera from the position of vice chairperson at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.

Others slated to be kicked out are Cherera’s colleagues Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi, and Justus Nyang’aya. The four are on the chopping board due to their conduct during the August 9 General Elections.
