Kenyan motorists will need to register for Nairobi expressway using their logbooks.

The logbook is one of the mandatory requirements that has been set for registration with Moja Expressway, a subsidiary of China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC).

When you go to register, you will also be required to carry your original and copy of national ID or passport, Sh. 5,000 in cash or card.

You will also have to fill a form. It is being recommended that motorists who will be regular users of the expressway get their electronic pass gadgets installed on their vehicles.

There will be three modes of payment the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) and Manual toll collection (MTC), and cash.

Those who will be paying cash will not need to register. Only those who want to install the On-Board Unit (OBU) are required to register.

Once the OBU is installed, it cannot be transferred to another vehicle. This is the reason why Moja has asked for motorists to register with their logbook.

Companies will require a copy of the certificate of incorporation, company KRA PIN certificate, contact person’s ID card, vehicle logbook and a letter introducing the contact person for the service.

Additionally, motorists will require a special toll payment card to use the expressway.

This card can be applied for at the service centre located at the Nairobi Expressway Plaza on Mombasa Road.

In their application, motorists will fill out a subscriber registration form, present a national ID or passport and a copy of their vehicle’s logbook. They will pay a minimum of Sh. 1,000 (inclusive of VAT).

They will then be issued with an On-Board Unit (OBU), a device to be installed on their vehicle and activated. They will then purchase toll points, which they will load into OBU device.
