Unconfirmed reports have emerged that the managing director at the National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) Ms. Sumayya Athmani has been fired.
Ms. Athmani was reportedly fired on Wednesday following a board meeting that was led by the new cabinet secretary for energy Mr. Charles Keter.
Immediately after the sacking, the NOCK board appointed Ms. Jane Njoroge as an acting general manager.
Ms. Athmani has been under increasing pressure from consumer lobby group, Consumer Federation of Kenya (COFEK), which in 2014 started to petition for her sacking over lack of stabilized fuel prices despite low international crude oil prices. Ms. Athmani began working as a managing director at NOCK in 2011.
