Road accidents in Kenya: On Boxing Day, December 26, 21-year-old Maximilian Chemutai survived a freak motorcycle accident on at Chebarus in Nandi County.
The mother of a three-year-old son was returning home from the local shopping centre when the boda boda she was travelling in collided with a matatu along Kapsabet-Shamakhokho road. She survived narrowly, escaping with a minor bruise on her knee.
“God you are so amazing. I will forever glorify and praise your name. I was involved in an accident. It was God’s favour to escape without any serious injuries,” she posted on her Facebook page.
On Saturday afternoon, Chemutai left home to meet the boda boda rider over the accident issue that had been reported and recorded at the Cherabus Police Station.
On the way, Chemutai was hit by a matatu while standing by the roadside at the same shopping centre where she had suffered the first accident. She died on the spot.
Apparently, the matatu’s brakes failed and ploughed into a crowd that was standing by the roadside, killing six people, among them Chemutai. Ms. Chemutai was a student at the Kisii University’s Eldoret Campus where she was studying mass communication.
“I can’t understand what happened. She was recovering well from the knock. It is so confusing,” her mother Beatrice Chebet told a local media house.
