Robert Alai appeals for bail funds after getting arrested over Julie Gichuru’s land-grab claim

Popular blogger Robert Alai has come out to appeal for interested Kenyans to contribute towards his possible bailout after his was arrested on Thursday evening. Mr. Robert Alai was arrested for linking the husband of popular CITIZEN TV presenter Julie Gichuru, Tony Gichuru, to Lang’ata Primary School’s playground land grabbing.

Appealing from his Facebook wall, Mr. Robert Alai posted:

Please send your contributions. We will appreciate your support. Impunity can only be defeated if we all unite.

Robert Alai was asked to present himself at CID headquarters from where he was detained and arrested before being taken to Muthaiga Police Station.

Robert Alai broke news of his arrested through his tweeter handle by posting: “Presented myself to police at 9am. Being held overnight despite presenting myself after being called. This is funny.”

Ms. Julie Gichuru had vowed to sue Robert Alai after the blogger posted stories alleging that her husband was involved in numerous land grabbing cases in Lang’ata and Ruai.

Robert Alai then went on to make allegations about Julie Gichuru’s parents-in-law, further drawing the anger of the TV presenter. Ms. Gichuru said that she was exploring legal options to sue Robert Alai. “We are eploring every legal opportunity towards recourse. Whether it takes days, weeks, months or years, we shall work patiently with our lawyers to ensure that those responsible for the online terrorism are held accountable for their actions and will not do this to anyone ever again,” she said.
