Rotich rejects Ruto’s senior advisor job, says he prefers CBK job

Former National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich has rejected a a senior fiscal advisor job that he was offered by President William Ruto.

This comes barely a day after he was appointed to the role of Senior Advisor on Fiscal Affairs and Budget Policy. This position was being held by current Central Bank of Kenya Governor Kamau Thugge. Thugge had been appointed to the position in October 2022.

In its place, Rotich says that he believes he would be better suited for a role at the Central Bank of Kenya.

Co-Op post

He made these revelations when he spoke to Radio Africa’s The Star Newspaper on Friday.

“I thank the president for appointing me to be among his advisers. I, however, think I’d be of better service to the country if I go back to CBK where I worked for many years,” Rotich was quoted by the newspaper.

If he is to be deployed at the Central Bank of Kenya, Rotich will serve under Thugge who was his junior when he served as the Treasury Cabinet Secretary.

He will also face off with Thugge who turned into a State witness in the Sh. 63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal they were both sued for.

Rotich was removed from his position as Treasury CS on January 14, 2020. He was replaced by Ukur Yatani.
