Safaricom is set to start offering taxi ride-hailing services that will see the firm rival popular Uber taxis. This was revealed by the company’s CEO Bob Collymore.
“The new app is effectively a rival for Uber. It is a local competitor which will be cheaper and better for the local community,” said Mr. Collymore.
The Safaricom CEO further said that Safaricom would launch the service in partnership with Nairobi-based software developer Craft Silicon within the next three weeks. The app has been dabbed as Littlecabs.
“Safaricom will help to develop the application for the service, offer the network connectivity, put Wi-Fi in vehicles that will be signed up on it, and use its mobile-phone based financial service M-Pesa to process payments,” Collymore said.
