The government has announced a salary increment for all civil servants following a planned strike that could have seen the public employees across the country down their tools.

In a letter issued by Public Service Principal Secretary Amos Gathecha on Tuesday, September 3, the salary increase was backdated to July 1, 2024.

The changes will now see civil servants get salary increments of between Sh1,000 and Sh3,000 alongside other benefits.

“The new basic salaries and house allowance will apply to civil servants in the national government in CSG17 to CSG4 who will be in service on or after 1st July 2024,” reads the letter in part.

According to the new wage structure, the lowest-paid civil servants in job group CSG17, who earn Sh16,950, will now earn Sh18,250, representing a Sh1,000 increase.

Meanwhile, Civil servants in job group CSG16 earning Sh16,910 per month will now receive Sh18,250, while those earning Sh19,220 will receive Sh20,560.

In job group CSG15, the lowest paid civil servants will receive Sh19,340 per month, up from Sh18,000, while those currently paid Sh19,900 will receive Sh21,240.

For the highest-paid individuals, employees earning Sh143,640 per month in job group CSG5 will now receive a salary of Sh146,360 per month, while those earning Sh262,420 will receive Sh266,750.

Moreover, those taking home Sh180,160 per month in job group CSG4, the highest job group, will now receive a monthly pay of Sh182,890, while those earning Sh335,450 will receive Sh339,780.

The employees are also set to receive an increase in their house allowances.

Civil servants across the country had threatened to stage demonstrations by the end of this month should the government fail to honor the second phase of the CBA, which was supposed to be implemented in July.
