Well, it is my pleasure to introduce you to Stacey, the college student who wears many hats. To add to the achievements above, over 8the years, she has received awards and International Recognition. In 2008, she received The Presidential Award Challenge (Bronze), in 2013 she emerged the winner of a national Business Plan cometition and received the Best Award in the Agro Business category. The same award gave her an entry to International Business Forum, for the Green Challenge Awards. In 2014, Stacey emerged in the top 7 National Award winners in the Global Entrepreneurs Business Startups Challenge.

While many would find it difficult to manage responsibilities that come with her titles, Stacey explains with ease how she manages her tasks and still finds sometime for herself. Stacey attributes her success to, effective time management, dedication to her course and self discipline. Stacey’s day begins as early as 5 am especially when she has to attend meeting before reporting to work at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs 8 am getting home as late as 10 pm on many occassions.

Stacey believes that for one to succeed there is need to believe in yourself and seek out mentors. Stacey has been lucky to have advisors with diverse backgrounds both in public and private sectors including senior political figures in the country. According to Stacey most people seek out senior members of government and politicians for tenders or job favors; but for her it is to seek advice on various issues or raise a concern affecting young women and youth and learn by observing them.

Championing the rights of young women is close to Stacey’s heart. Stacey believes that for young women to be successful there is need for them to work together, share ideas and find solutions to common challenges affecting them. She believe  that women improve the management and performance of institutions both in public and private sectors, and have been instrumental in the realization of success in many fields. She gives examples of her mum; Alice Rutoh – (HSC) who is her greatest motivator, mentor and friend and confidant. She draws inspisration from women leaders Ambassador Amina Mohammed Chawahir, (Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Anne Waiguru who are leaders in their own right and senior government officials.

At the tender age of 20 years, Stacey was entrusted with the responsibility of being the Chief Executive Officer of a family owned enterprise though she felt was not ready for the task. However, her mother mentored and guided to develop her skills and confidence that saw her steer the enterprise to greater heights.

Stacey believes that young women must take an active role in politics to improve the management and performance of this great nation. She explains that this is not just an issue of moral or ethical equality but a responsibility that the women must take to make the lives of other young women better through advocacy. She cites the senatorial positions in the current senate where no woman was elected from the last general election with all women senators being nominated to the positions by their respective political parties.

Being a Junior Senator has seen Stacey work and interact with youths not only in Bomet but other parts of the country. To ensure that youth of this country succeed, Stacey is of the opinion that the government should not provide handouts. Instead, she advocates for the government to avail opportunities to which the youths can tap into to improve their livelihoods.
