Standard Media Group to fire hundreds yet again

The Standard Media Group is reportedly looking to fire at least 300 employees.

This is according to an online local media website. According to reports appearing on website, among those set o be laid of are the media house’s top editors.

According to reports, the lay offs are expected to tame a ballooning wage bill at the Mombasa Road-based media group.

Many of those who will be chopped off from the payroll include correspondents. They will closely be followed by top editors and reporters who apparently take home salaries of over Sh. 250,000.

The correspondents are said to be earning average salaries of Sh. 40,000 per month.

This will be he second massive lay off carried out by he Standard Group. In 2015, the second largest media house in Kenya fired over 250 employees. Those sent home included over 100 journalists.

The media Group is currently looking to fill a void in teh CEO’s seat after immediate former CEO Sam Shollei resigned under unclear circumstances. The Standard Media Group owns owns The Standard newspapers, KTN, The Nairobian and Radio Maisha.
