At an event on June 15th, 2022, TECNO launched their latest Camon series; the TECNO Camon 19 series. The phone has features that have not been witnessed in previous models of the phone. The most spectacular feature of the Camon 19 is that it becomes the first phone ever invented in the world to have an RGBW sensor.
The sensor was co-manufactured by their market rival, Samsung. The RGBW sensor (Red, Green, Blue, White) sensor provides better low-light photography performance and produces better pictures and videos with high contrast scenes.
TECNO also designed the phone to have the ‘slimmest bezel’ (case surrounding the phone) at 0.98 mm.
There are also several upgrades in the performance department from its predecessor, TECNO Camon 18. In total, the Camon 19 series will have four handsets; the Camon 19, the Camon 19 Pro, Camon 19 Pro 5G and the Camon 19 Neo.
The TECNO Camon 19 pro has a 6.8-inch screen display flaunting a full HD+ resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The Camon 19 Pro’s flat sides give a sense of nostalgia towards brand rivals Oneplus 10R, Vivo V23, Oppo Reno 7 and Redmi. The Camon 19 pro is powered by the MediaTek Helio G96 chipset and has different RAM and ROM configurations.
The phone is richly spoilt with an OIS-backed Camera System which comes in a dual-ring camera layout. The Camon 19 pro features the industry’s first 64MP main camera.
TECNO confirmed that the Camera System would be smart enough to detect low-light and activate a video night view algorithm in the case of shooting photos or videos. When the mode is enabled, the main sensor works with the RGBW sensor to enhance the overall brightness of images and videos.
They also encouraged potential owners to make use of the portrait mode as it blurs the background bringing the image into stunning focus. The Camera is capable of applying OIS+EIS to offer to improve low-light photography results.
The second sensor on the phone in the triple-lens camera system is a 50MP 2X optical zoom lens with a focal length distance of 50mm. This lens offers a crisp portrait with a natural bokeh effect. The phone has a single punch hole for the selfie camera located at the top center of the screen.
The TECNO Camon 19 is backed by a 5,000mAh battery cell with a 33W Flash Charge technology. The Network Technologies are GSM/HSPA/LTE. It is a dual sim and comes in three different colors, black, white and green. The phone’s operating system will be Android 12 HiOS user interface 8.6. The CPU is an Octa-core while the GPU graphics processor is the Mali-G52 MC2.
The TECNO Camon 19 pro with 8GB RAM is expected to cost Kshs. 24,499 while the Tecno Camon 19 Pro 5G will cost Kshs. 34,999. The phones are currently available on pre-order in Kenya. They will be launched into the world markets in July, as the date is yet to be confirmed.
