Tips to save money, time when paying back-to-school bills
Back-to-school

Schools across the country are opening for the first term of the new 2017 year starting today. This follows a two month holiday break that climaxed with Christmas and New Year festivities.

One of the most critical elements experienced during this time is the payment of school fees. many parents are bound to make long unwinding queues in and outside banking halls looking to settle their children’ term one school fees. Others will be making the same queues outside the school bursars’ offices after carrying their money from home. This, though, need not be the case.

The Co-operative Bank has formulated a series of ways through which parents can save time and money when settling their kids’ school fees.

The first step is through the Co-op Bank’s mobile platforms. Sending money through the M-Coop platform to a school’s Co-operative Bank account is free. Additionally, once you have sent money, it will immediately reflect on the school’s account. In the same vein, you may pay your child’s school fees to a school’s Co-operative Bank account using the MPesa paybill number 400222.

If you have a smart phone, you may opt to download the MCo-op Cash mobile app from you phone’s play store. The mobile app will allow you to access your Co-operative Bank account for free, and will enable you to transfer fees from your account to your child’s school account for free. By using the app, you will not have to physically withdraw fees or write a banker’s cheque.

In the same breathe, instead of walking into a bank, you may use a Co-op kwa Jirani banking agent. Banking at a Co-op Kwa Jirani agent is as good as banking at a Co-op bank branch. When using Co-op Kwa Jirani agent, you will need to indicate the student names when making the payment. You may also state before-hand that you are paying fees to the Co-op agent to get full assistance.

Above all, though, the first step before paying your child’s school fees will start by shopping for their term one utilities. Instead of carrying cash around town, you can use your Co-op Bank’s Visa Card, which will allow you to pay for your bills without tendering any extra charges.
