KCB Foundation has today enhanced the capacity of its 2jiajiri youth skills and job creation programme by bringing on board an industry expert, Trident Vocational Training Centre (TVTC), for training under its plumbing pillar.
The 2jiajiri programme seeks to create self-employment and establish enterprises among unskilled and semi-skilled youth in Kenya, with a focus on enhancing training in courses based on demand-driven technical skills as well as facilitating job creation.
Annually, a total of 350 youth, aged from 18-35, will receive hands-on skills-based training in plumbing ranging from Grade 3 to Grade 1 followed by internships and job placement opportunities.
TVTC is certified by the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA), and National Construction Authority (NCA) to offer skills-based training on plumbing.
Speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the two organisations, KCB Foundation Chief of party Caroline Wanjeri noted that the disruption in the economy and education sectors caused by the COVID-19 pandemic set back the country’s youth job creation efforts.

“Plumbing is a key technical skill that has high income generating probability, which is why it’s a pillar under 2jiajiri. By bringing onboard Trident Vocational Training Centre our youth get to learn from the best in the industry giving them the competitive edge needed for the market,” she added.
On his part, Devshi Kerai from Trident Group of Companies Kenya CEO said that: “Our focus is to leverage on the best industry standards to provide training based on quality, value and high standards to all trainees. We’re proud to be part of the 2jiajiri programme in its efforts to create jobs for the youth in Kenya.”
Launched in 2016, 2jiajiri focuses on growing youth micro-businesses in the informal sector and bringing them to a place where they can employ at least 5 other young people with an aim of creating 250,000 jobs over five years.
As of 2020, the programme had skilled 36,706 youth across the country in five trade areas, specifically: 19,080 in agribusiness, 9,910 in building and construction, 2,083 in automotive engineering 3,430 in beauty and personal care, 1,638 in domestic services and 515 in ICT.
