The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is seeking to recruit 20,000 teachers on internship terms in October this year.
The commission will employ 18,000 junior secondary school and 2,000 primary school intern teachers.
The teachers will be issued with internship certificates at the end of their contract. The certificates will award them more marks during recruitment interviews
Early this, month, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia said that Intern teachers will start receiving new salaries from the commission after receiving money for confirming them to permanent terms
According to TSC CEO Nancy Macharia, the extension of intern teachers is to allow the current cohort of intern teachers to remain in school until the end of the year, providing a seamless transition into the new academic year.

Interns attached to primary schools will earn a monthly stipend of Sh15,000 while those in junior school will get Sh20,000.
During verification/ interviews, applicants shall be required to produce the following:
- A copy of the Teacher Registration Certificate/print-out from the TSC online portal as evidence of registration as a teacher
- A copy of the National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card (where applicable)
- A copy of the National Identity Card (ID) or Passport;
- Two (2) color passport-size photographs
- A copy of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) card
- A copy of the Kenya Revenue Authority Personal Identification Number (KRA PIN)
According to Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba, TSC has received Sh18.7 billion to confirm 46,000 intern teachers to permanent and pensionable terms.
