Employees of troubled retailer Tuskys Supermarket were on Friday caught up in a physical fight with auctioneers. The employees from Tuskys Juja branch appeared in the video clip tossing and throwing items in a battle against auctioneers who were threatening to evict the retailer over rent arrears.
A day later, Tuskys said that the branch will continue to operate.
In a statement, the supermarket chain said the dispute is being resolved amicably with a promise to continue trading normally. The row came even as the retailer fired tens of its workers and closed some of its stores, among them the K-Mall outlet in Komarok.

The supermarket is on death bed. It currently owes supplies in excess of Sh. 6.2 billion. “Total trade supplier debt is Sh. 6.2 billion. As at August 6, 2020, 40 percent of this supplier debt has been rescheduled and the respective suppliers have signed individual agreements to reschedule the debt to periods between eight months and 24 months. Having these debts rescheduled and restructured, allows Tuskys time to reorganize cash flows and meet supplier obligations,” the supermarket said in a letter addressed to the Competition Authority of Kenya.
