ICAEW (the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) has established a new Members Advisory Board (MAB), consisting of prominent chartered accountants from across Africa.

The Board will meet regularly to identify and discuss issues faced by the accountancy and finance profession, and provide advice and guidance to ICAEW’s Africa operations.

The Members Advisory Board, chaired by Daniel Ndonye, former Deloitte partner, consists of a mix of members working in accountancy firms, in senior positions within business and the public sector.

Co-Op post

The main purpose of the Board is to work with the ICAEW Regional Director Michael Armstrong to identify emerging major issues that will affect the accountancy and finance professions and ICAEW members in the region, and act as a networking facility and provide strategic advice on ICAEW’s Africa activity.

The Members Advisory Board was inaugurated at the Villa Rosa Kempinski Nairobi, on 28 November 2016.

Michael Armstrong, Regional Director, ICAEW Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, said: “ICAEW has a broad range of members in Africa who have tremendous amounts of expertise and experience and whose advice will be invaluable. Drawing on this will help us get closer to the key issues facing the accounting and finance professions in the region. It will also mean we can provide the best possible support for our members in Africa. I am enormously grateful for the time, effort, input and support these members provide and I look forward to working with them.”

Daniel Ndonye, Board Chairman, said: “Although the global financial crisis demonstrated that the world is getting smaller, it is still fair to say that there are distinct challenges faced by business and the profession  – both regionally and across Africa as a whole. By working closely together with peers from across the continent we can help drive development in the areas where it is most needed, as well as supporting ICAEW members, and the wider profession.”
