Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is back on Twitter

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta is back on Twitter. The president has opened a Twitter account three years after he quit social media.

The president’s account is running under the handle @4thPresidentKE.

Uhuru’s social media accounts were deactivated on March 22, 2019. State House said that the move to deactivate the accounts was strategic and aimed at consolidating presidential communication.

However, sources said the move was informed by increased criticism from followers and cyber bullying.

From the initial postings done on the account on its first day, the main content has centred on the retired president’s peace efforts in the region. Uhuru is the Facilitator of the East African Community (EAC).

It however remains to be seen whether the account, which will now act as a communication platform for the former president, will delve into other issues including local politics and economics.
