Ukraine has donated 25,000 metric tonnes of wheat to Kenya. This has been revealed by the office of the Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

According to a statement from the office, the wheat donation from Ukraine will be distributed to counties severely affected by the ongoing drought.

Ukraine continues to play a key role in global food security amidst the ongoing Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Kenya imports 75 per cent of its annual demand of 1.2 million metric tonnes of wheat.

Russia and Ukraine were estimated to account for 23 per cent of global exports in the 2021/22 wheat marketing season.

Wheat prices in Kenya have been rising because prior to the war, Russia had been limiting exports.
