The University of Nairobi has scrapped up to ten mandatory units that have been on its course offerings for years.
Among the ten courses that have been scrapped are the communication units that every first year student has been taking and HIV/AIDS course.
Others on the chopping board include Elements of Philosophy, Law in Society, and Fundamentals of Development and thei Application.
According to the University of Nairobi corporate affairs director John Orindi, the units that have been scrapped are outdated and irrelevant in today’s world.
Orindi says that there are more important things the University of Nairobi can teach its students other than the old and irrelevant units that have been scrapped.

“We have issues of climate and technology, which the graduate needs to be updated with,” said Orindi.
“So, we are moving with the times to be relevant in whatever we teach, not things that are old and not relevant to the graduates. We want things that add value to the graduates.”
