TSC announces 20,000 vacancies for intern teachers. See salary, how to apply

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 20,000 vacancies for intern teachers.

Out of these, 18,000 teachers will be recruited for Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) while 2,000 intern teachers will be recruited to teach in basic primary schools.

Those who get slots in Junior Secondary Schools will get paid Sh. 20,000 while those in primary schools will be paid Sh. 15,000.

To qualify for the Junior Secondary Schools positions, aspiring teachers must hold a minimum of a diploma in education and a minimum mean grade of C+ and C+ in two subjects in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) or its equivalent.

They must also be registered with the teachers commission. The commission has also encouraged teachers from technical and vocational education and training institutions to apply.

To qualify for the primary school positions, aspiring candidate should be a P1 certificate holder and registered with TSC. Teachers with a diploma in primary teacher education (Competence-Based Curriculum) will have an added advantage in the recruitment.

“Applicants will be required to submit their applications to the Secretary. Teachers Service Commission online through www.teachersonline.go.ke for the institution where a vacancy has been declared. Applicants will be required to upload copies of professional and academic certificates together with any other relevant document as may be applicable,” the TSC said.

In addition to this, the successful candidates will be required to have accident insurance to cover personal during the internship period.

Successful candidates who are posted to Junior Secondary Schools will be required to teach different areas of learning within the Junior Secondary curriculum.

“Applicants whose names differ in the academic and professional certificates and/or identification cards MUST present an Affidavit, sworn under the Oaths and Statutory Declarations Act, Cap 15 of the Laws of Kenya to explain the variance in names,” the TSC added.

“Applicants who re-sat either KCPE or KCSE examinations (or their equivalents) MUST present certified copies of the certificate(s) of the national examination(s) in question for all the attempts. Copies of the certificates must be certified by the Sub-County Directors.”
