As once put, not all heroes wear capes. Meru teacher and night watchman Fabian works at St. Pius X Seminary Secondary School. He is also employed at KK Security.
Teacher Fabian has become a beacon of inspiration to fellow teachers and students that with dedication, hard work and discipline, any man can achieve greatness.
In addition to being an amazing Chemistry and Biology teacher who imparts and sparks knowledge into the brains of young minds, Fabian plays a vigilant role in the night as a watchman and protector.
In an exclusive, Fabian detailed that he dropped out of school in the early 2000s for lack of school fees. He had to extinguish the burning fire he had for an education.
Life holds our fate, and unbeknownst to him, his delay in education was a means to expose him and open greater doors in his life.
“In 2001, I had to drop out of school and I came to Nairobi to hustle as a young man doing manual jobs. In 2009, I joined a security company which is based in Nairobi but I was posted in Meru,” Fabian recalled.
After almost 5 years of working as a security guard, Fabian opted to return to high school to complete his education journey in 2014. By this time, he had saved enough money to accomplish this.
“In 2016, I registered as a private candidate for KCSE. In 2017, I then proceeded to Meru University for my Bachelor in Education Science. I graduated in 2022.”
In these moments, Fabian was a college student by day and a watchman by night. He did this consecutively to see through his finances until he graduated in 2022.
He began tarmacking, as a long job search is referred to. However, it did not take long for him to land an opening as a high school sciences teacher at Pius C Seminary Secondary School in Nkubu.
“In fact, I was given the examinations department after I was hired and after three months in the school, I was also the science department in the school, and I am happy to say a great improvement has been noted since I began working in the science department,” he noted with an infectious smile and pride plastered on his face.
When he landed the high school job, Fabian knew he had to hustle harder than he ever did before. Consequently, he didn’t inform the school management or the students of his side venture at night.
However, since joining TikTok and sharing his story, Fabian went viral. He realised that he is an inspiration to many who needed motivation.
“I decided to share my story with the students to motivate them. The administration was pleased when I shared because the students took it very positively,” he added.

In class, it’s not operations as usual as he maintains a bold approach to ensure his students take their studies seriously. Given his story, he echoes to them that education is very important regardless of age and circumstances.
He has also taught the students to respect security guards as most of them face challenges they cannot share with anyone.
“Sometimes I wear my watchman uniform to class to motivate the students. When I teach, I hilariously challenge them that they cannot fail to know Chemistry, yet a security guard is teaching them,” he humorously stated.
Aside from being a watchman and a science teacher at the Nkubu High School, Fabian has also turned into a key motivational speaker invited to schools to speak to students during seminars and workshops. Recently he attended one at the Alliance Boys High School.
“I had an opportunity also to interact with some of the students and share with them a brief story of my life and what they need to do in order to get good results.”
“I told them challenges mould a person, so they should take any challenges to be a stepping stone to their success,” he concluded.
Fabian’s way of life of balancing two jobs diligently has seen him become a social media favourite with his inspirational story.
“One of the quotes I gave them is ‘working hard and smart will take you to the top, but good discipline will maintain them at the top’.”
