Hass Petroleum is a leading oil marketing company in Africa, providing transportation, storage, and distribution of petroleum products.
The company was founded in 1996 as AA Hassan & Company by the late Abdirizak Ali Hassan and the current chairman, Abdinasir Ali Hassan.
The company was initially an export reseller, eyeing the liberalized market in Tanzania. The headquarters was set up in Kisumu, western Kenya, strategically near the Kenya Pipeline Depot that services neighboring Uganda, Rwanda, DR Congo, and South Sudan.
Hass Petroleum’s first strategic partnership with the then Caltex provided both required resale products as well as additional trucking business for northern Tanzania.
Later, when El Nino rains cut off product distribution in Tanzania, the company built a Musoma depot in Tanzania and created a well-managed petroleum product transportation system over Lake Victoria using a barge.
Through a growing clientele, AA Hassan entered the Uganda, DRC, and South Sudan markets.
In 2001, the company rebranded to Al Hassan Company in preparation for oil and shipping registration bids in Kenya.
In 2002, the company rebranded to Hass Petroleum Group and was registered in Kenya as an oil marketing company while still targeting expansion in Uganda and Tanzania.
The company was recognized as an oil marketer and attained access to the product via the Kenya Pipeline Company. Hass Petroleum headquarters moved to Lonrho House, Nairobi, and shortly after, to Barclays Plaza, Nairobi.
The first station in Uganda, Hass Nalukolongo, opened, and the current home of Hass Petroleum Group, Hass Plaza, was acquired and made regional headquarters, as the business nerve center transferred to the new site.
The company has since expanded its operations to other regions in Africa, including Rwanda, Zambia, and DR Congo, among others.

Hass Petroleum is managed by Abdinasir Ali Hassan, the Chairman of the company who lives in the United Arab Emirates and London. At the helm of its leadership is 36-year-old Mohamud Salat, the Chief Executive Officer of the company that has employed over 1,700 people across East and Central Africa. The executive board of the company consists of seven people.
