The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has explained why the highest number of 2022 KCSE candidates were placed at Kisii University.
KUCCPS placement results show Kisii University received the highest number of freshmen, with 8,632 students placed at the institution.
It was followed by Kenyatta University (7,963), Maseno University (7,702), Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (6,917), and University of Nairobi (6,912).
According to KUCCPS CEO Agnes Wahome, the institution was a top choice as it had the most available programs for students who had scored C+ and above.

In addition, it has the most affordable degree programs compared to other institutions. Wahome disclosed that cut-off points and cost were the main factors many 2022 KCSE students considered when selecting their preferred higher learning institutions.
“You look at the requirements for those courses. The minimum requirement is C+ hence provides an opportunity for many students. For instance, a student can choose an engineering course between one university in Taita Taveta and another in Nairobi. Which one will receive more applications? It’s the one in Nairobi, but one factor most students considered this time round was the cut-off points as they did not want to miss out on the placement,” Wahome said.
KUCCPS portal shows that to study Bachelor of Commerce at Kisii University, students will part with Sh 206,635 compared to KU (Sh183,600), JKUAT (Sh183,600), and UoN (Sh220,150).
Under Bachelor of Law, Kisii University charges Sh225,335. The same course costs Sh221,850 at UoN and Sh183,000 at Chuka University, Embu University, Kenyatta University, and Maseno University.
